Some people want a tent that looks like a tent: a tall peak in the middle, fabric pulled tight down to the stakes, and that classic outline you see at garden weddings. That’s the 20×20 pole tent. It rises to 15 ft at the center, sits at 7 ft on the sides, and at $395 it’s the lowest-priced 20×20 tent we rent. The tradeoff is that it needs a lawn, and it has a pole in the middle.
Pole Tent 20×20 or Frame Tent 20×20?
We rent both, and the right one depends on your yard and your layout.
Choose the pole tent if:
- You’re setting up on grass with room to spare
- You like the peaked look and the extra height in the middle
- You want the lower price, $395 for the tent
Choose the 20×20 frame tent if:
- The only open space is a driveway, patio or deck
- You need the floor completely clear, with no pole in the center
- Your lawn doesn’t have 5 extra feet on every side
What Your Site Needs for a 20 x 20 Pole Tent
A pole tent holds its shape with tensioned fabric, center poles and stakes around the edge, so it goes on grass only. The lawn also needs at least 5 feet of clear ground past each side of the tent for staking. For a 20 x 20 pole tent, that means an open grass area of about 30 ft x 30 ft.
Before you book, walk the space and look for anything that could get in the way:
- Slopes or uneven ground
- Sprinkler and irrigation lines
- Trees, branches and overhead wires
- Buildings, fences or sheds too close to the edge
Call 811 before setup day so buried utility lines get marked, and check with Ocean Township or your own town about a tent permit. If you’re not sure your yard works, we can do a site visit for $250, and that amount is credited when you book.
Planning Around the Center Pole
The 20×20 covers 400 sq ft. At about 10 square feet per seated guest, that’s room for roughly 32 to 40 people, but the center pole takes up part of the floor, so treat those numbers as a starting point and plan your tables around it. A round table placed so the pole sits beside it, or a buffet set against the pole, usually works better than leaving it standing alone in an aisle.
Pole skirts ($240) cover the poles in white fabric, and string lights can run from the peak down toward the edges. Use the tent calculator to check your guest count before you settle on this size.

Before You Book
Can a pole tent go on a driveway or patio?
No. Pole tents have to be staked into grass. For a hard surface, the 20×20 frame tent can be held down with weights instead.
Is the center pole in the way?
It takes up a small part of the floor, so plan tables, a dance floor or a buffet around it. Pole skirts make it look finished.
How do I reserve the 20×20 pole tent?
Add it to your cart above, confirm the grass requirements, and choose your add-ons. Or request a quote with your date and address. Email quotes go out the same business day.
